Information Technology (IT) is committed to
serving the business operations
of the City by providing enterprise-wide integrated system solutions
and high-quality customer service to ensure the efficient utilization
of technology resources and investments. Additionally, IT is responsible
for enabling the online interaction between the citizens of the City of
Clearwater with the City's elected officials and senior management.
Department Overview
Information Technology (IT) is responsible for delivering quality services
in the areas of systems support, hardware and software help desk support, network
operations, purchasing, telecommunications, and business systems analysis. IT provides
customer service for all of the City's user departments. Currently, there are approximately
900 desktop computers and servers, and over 1,200 individual computer user accounts located
at over 40 locations throughout the City. There are currently eight major business systems and
over 50 custom software applications administered and supported by the programming staff.
In the telecommunications area there are approximately 600 NEXTEL units and 1,600 desktop telephones.
Each month the IT Help Desk receives approximately 375 requests for assistance from City computer users.
The IT Department is divided into the following four categories:
