The city of Clearwater is creating a citywide wayfinding and signage plan to help commuters navigate the roadways and easily reach points of interest.

The city and its consultant, wayfinding and signage expert MERJE of West Chester, Pa., will hold a public meeting to present the preliminary design concepts for the wayfinding and signage plan for Clearwater Beach, Downtown Clearwater and other city points of interest from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19 at the Clearwater Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave.

The formal presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Members of the city’s Planning and Development Department and MERJE will be available to answer questions from 6 to 7 p.m.

MERJE staff will explain the city’s wayfinding and signage project and present preliminary designs for a holistic wayfinding and signage approach for the entire city.

Wayfinding and signage systems serve to help residents and visitors find their way to the various destinations in an area. Wayfinding systems include signage, banners, brochures, visitor guides, gateway features and public art. Wayfinding is also present in technology through mobile applications and interactive maps.

Wayfinding and signage help promote a city’s overall identity, and help to brand business areas and neighborhoods. Additionally, they serve as a tool for marketing, tourism and economic development.
