Clearwater: First Pass of Hurricane Debris Collection is Complete

The second pass is under way and should be complete Oct. 30.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The city of Clearwater's Solid Waste/Recycling Department has completed the first pass of yard, storm and hurricane debris removal in the public areas and neighborhoods of Clearwater city limits. This means that all residents within the city of Clearwater have had their roadways cleared one time of yard, storm and hurricane debris since Hurricane Irma came through Clearwater.

The second pass, or collection, began today and is under way. Crews have returned to the Countryside area to begin the second pass/collection since the hurricane, and they anticipate that it will be finished Monday, Oct. 30. Several contractors continue to work alongside the city's solid waste team to help accomplish the first and second passes.

"Considering we started the day after the storm, our city crews have done a phenomenal job and should be commended for their hard work," said Earl Gloster, Director of Clearwater Solid Waste/Recycling. "The teams at Stormwater and Parks & Recreation were and are supporting us at Solid Waste every step of the way, and we appreciate their help and wouldn't be where we are today without them. I'm looking forward to final cleanup and closing out of our debris site."

City teams are posting debris and route collection updates online on a daily basis: myclearwater.com/Home/Components/News/News/802/266. A map that residents can use to look up their status for hurricane collection also is being updated: https://gis.myclearwater.com/IrmaDebris.

If residents have any questions regarding the removal of yard, storm or hurricane debris removal, please call the Solid Waste Operations Center at (727) 562-4920.
