Sunshine State Book Talking
Video Contest 2010

Contest Information

CPLS is hosting its very first Sunshine State Book Talking Video Contest.  We are encouraging students who are in grade levels 3-8 to get creative and submit a video talking about their favorite Sunshine State book from the 2009-2010 year.

The top three winning videos in each category, elementary school and middle school, will be posted on our website before the Battle of the Books Finals in May.

Who can participate?
Any Pinellas county student who is currently in grades 3-8. This contest is open to all Pinellas county students whether it be public school, private school, or homeschooled.

Contest Rules and Guidelines

  • Students must currently be in grade levels 3-8.
  • Time limit of the video must be between 3-7 minutes. Videos that exceed 7 minutes will be disqualified.
  • There will be only one prize given per video entry. Friends and family may appear in the video but only the student who enters will win the prize.
  • Adults may assist only as advisors. No professional assistance can be provided to produce this video in any manner. The video must be the work of the student.
  • Participants may use video editing software for their creations.
  • Participants are responsible to provide or obtain their own equipment. Clearwater Public Library System will not provide such equipment.
  • Students may be as creative as they see fit.  Students may stage their book talks as a short play, commercial, news broadcast, talk show, music video, game show, documentary, or any other creative and original direction.
  • Any material that is used in the video that is not original to the creator should be cited.  Example: Music by the Jonas Brothers used in the background of the video should be credited to the original artist.
  • All participants who appear in the video and are under the age of 18 must have their parent/guardian fill out a copy of the attached permission slip.  All permission slips must be turned in with the video. Students who help out in the production of but do not appear in the video do not need to have this form completed.
  • The winners will be selected based on their knowledge of the book, their creativity, and overall presentation of the book talk video.
  • Entries can be dropped off or mailed to any of the Clearwater Public Libraries. Videos may also be emailed to cplsyouth@gmail.com However, the entry forms and permissions slips must be dropped off in person or mailed in.
  • All entries must be in by April 16, 2010. Winners will be announced on our website by May 13, 2010.
