Finding Information with the Health and Wellness Resource Center and Health Reference Center AcademicThe Clearwater Public Library and the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative offer the Health and Wellness Resource Center and Health Reference Center Academic to registered library patrons as a way to search for information on health and wellness. ACCESSING THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTER AND HEALTH REFERENCE CENTER ACADEMICClick to access Health and Wellness Resource Center or Health Reference Center Academic. Enter your 14-digit library card number (if outside the library) and click PROCEED. Although they access somewhat different databases, the interface of the two Resource Centers is the same. QUICK STARTIf you are looking for general information or just want to browse the database, you can select one of the categories shown directly from the main page.
BASIC SEARCHINGEntering a term in the Search for box launches a keyword search of titles, authors, subject headings and up to the first 100 words of most documents. It is best to be as specific as possible, using more than one word if possible. For example, if you are looking for information about a specific type of cancer, do not type “cancer,” but rather the specific form of it you are interested in.
When you have submitted a search, a subject guide will appear to the left.
Using the subject guides can be a very effective way of obtaining the kind of information you want quickly. You can limit your search to certain types of documents or by date range by selecting one or more of the options given directly below the Search for box.
ADVANCED SEARCHINGIf have a good idea of what you are searching for, you can use the Advanced Search function to keep your search results narrow. Simply click on Advanced Search next to the search box.
The following window will appear.
OTHER SEARCH TIPSYou can use Boolean operators such as AND, OR, NOT, and W. Note too that as in many other databases that you can mark records for retrieval at a later time, after you are done searching.
