ACCESSING WORLD BOOK ONLINE

If you are inside a library, the World Book Online page will appear; if outside a library, you will need to type in your library card number and click VERIFY.

The home page of World Book Online contains numerous links and immediate information, such as a listing of historical events that happened on the particular day you are accessing the database.

In the upper right hand corner, you will see a search box.

SEARCHING WORLD BOOK ONLINE

When you receive your search results, you will see a list on the left of the results page that shows you all the available resources on that subject, such as articles, photos, sounds, and more.

If you click on Search Options, you will get a page that allows you to search using Boolean operators and other options for an advanced search.

STUDENT RESOURCES

At the top of the main page, there is a link to Site contents, which opens to a page that lists the various resources available at the site. Student Resources is meant to assist students with projects and assignments.

SURF THE AGES

A very interesting part of World Book Online is its Surf the Ages section, which can be accessed from the bottom right of the main page.

As you can see, it is a collection of imaginary web sites from historical time periods. Children will find this collection a fun and interesting way to learn more about historical subjects.

ATLAS

World Book Online also includes an atlas, which is accessed right above the Surf the Ages section.

DICTIONARY

A searchable dictionary is also included.

FEATURES OF THE MONTH

On the main page, towards the bottom, there is a Features of the Month section, which highlights certain areas for detailed information.

BEHIND THE HEADLINES

Another interesting section is the Behind the Headlines section, where current events are examined with a view to placing them into context.

MEDIA SHOWCASE

Also accessible from the main page is the Media Showcase, with different questions asked each week and the answers given on a separate page.

SPANISH LANGUAGE ENCYCLOPEDIA

At the top of the main page there is a link to a Spanish Language Encyclopedia.
