The signature event of the week is Celebrate Clearwater Neighborhoods Day, when a score or more of block parties are thrown in neighborhoods across every part of the city. The mayor, city councilmembers, city management team, department mascots and city staff from police to firefighters to solid waste personnel, caravan to each party, giving residents a chance to meet and greet those who manage city policies and directly serve their needs. Activities may also strengthen partnerships with the business community, faith-based organizations, social service providers, community-based groups and local healthcare agencies. Back To Top Celebrate Clearwater Neighborhoods DayIn August 1998, the Clearwater City Commission endorsed the Clearwater block party program, recommending a designated day each spring to hold block parties in neighborhoods throughout Clearwater. On that day, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., the Mayor, city councilmembers, city management and staff representatives visit the neighborhood block parties and speak with residents in their own neighborhoods—a positive and comfortable environment for residents to discuss their concerns and ask questions. Neighborhood Services provides block party kits for participating neighborhoods with specialized flyers to invite neighbors, party decorations, planning materials, and City of Clearwater promotional materials. Each year, approximately 80 city representatives visit 20-30 participating neighborhood block parties. Since the event's inception ten years ago, City representatives have met personally with more than 5,000 Clearwater residents. View the Celebrate Clearwater Neighborhoods Day 2007 Photo Gallery
