East Gateway District
...on the path to revitalization!

The East Gateway District is an important City of Clearwater neighborhood whose time has come once again. Decades of disinvestment and decline are being overcome through a concerted, community-based effort to make East Gateway a more vibrant place to live and do business.

Setting the Stage

A recently adopted action program is setting the stage for the East Gateway District’s renaissance. Based on input from residents, businesses and organizations, the East Gateway District Five-Year Action Program aims to:

  1. Engage the neighborhood’s diverse interests in the revitalization effort
  2. Achieve stability by addressing social, economic and physical issues
  3. Establish a unique and positive identity for East Gateway
  4. Attract new investment in both residential and business sectors

Funding has been secured for all but one of the Year 1 and Year 2 action items (FY 07/08-08/09) and several action items have been completed or are underway. Year 3-5 action items (FY 09/10-11/12) will undergo funding consideration during the City/CRA budgeting process beginning next fiscal year (FY 08/09).

The East Gateway District Task Force is currently working on several activities identified in the Five-Year Action Program. Progress on the Action Program will be reported at bi-annual East Gateway District community meetings

Guiding Principles
East Gateway District

Build on neighborhood strengths - repair, reconnect, regenerate.

"It takes a village" - create synergies through partnerships.

Promote socio-economic diversity through a mix of housing - both market rate and affordable.

Value residences, shops and active uses over automobile parking.

Make streets safe and attractive places to walk, bike and meet.

Build cultural capacity to establish and nurture a creative economy.

Value the "triple bottom line" - consider the economy, environment and social fabric in decision-making.
