Training Bureau Goals & Objectives

  • To provide in service training to all fire department employees
  • Monthly Probationary firefighter training
  • 8 week recruit school for all new employees
  • Quarterly training for all company officer’s and Chief’s
  • Specialized schools for driver operators, ladder and heavy rescue company training
  • Vehicle extrication training
  • Facilitate and provide resources for field training
  • Annual citizen’s academy
  • Annual Firefighter Safety Seminar for all county and regional firefighters
  • Provide training resource for other local departments and public safety agencies

Bureau Facts

  • Total of 6 buildings on a 5 + acre campus, including the Training Bureau, Logistics, and Fire Station 48
  • Bureau Staff of 5 assigned, Assistant Chief, 3 Lt’s, 1 FF, and 1 PT Staff Assistant
  • New Training Center completed September of 2008
  • Funded by Pennies for Pinellas
  • Old classroom converted to an the Training Bureau office
  • New 9,000 classroom building with 3 classrooms
  • Men’s & women’s locker rooms
  • Gear room for cleaning, drying, and storing personal protective equipment
  • Outside classroom/ rehab area
  • Building designed to Category 5 Hurricane standards
  • Will serve as the City’s back up Emergency Operations Center
  • Library with educational resources

  • 2,000 sq ft, 5 story training tower
  • 3 staircases
  • Built in standpipe & smoke production machine
  • Numerous movable wall panels, hatches, ladders, trap doors, a shaft and a attic, and other props to create realistic and challenging training scenarios
  • 2 burn rooms rated to 1500 degrees
