Water Supply Requirements
The adequacy of fire protection facilities for all new developments is
the responsibility of the authority having jurisdiction (A.H.J.) which
in all cases is defined as the applicable fire district or the designee
of said district as set forth in the fire district's Fire Prevention Code
and City Ordinance by the appropriate fire districts within specifies
many of the water supply requirements for fire protection however it must
be emphasized that many of the requirements are set forth within and adopted
by the City of Clearwater.
Minimum Fire Flow
Plans require that "at the time of application for connection to
the public potable water system that minimum fire flows and hydrant spacing
be consistent with fire district standards." The plan also requires
that the following minimum fire flows be available:
1. Fire hydrants in single-family subdivision areas shall be:
a. Spaced not more than 500 vehicular travel feet between hydrants;
b. Each capable of delivering a minimum fire flow of 500 gpm with required
pressure; and
c. Located in the public right-of-way in alignment with the side lot
lines of abutting properties.
2. Fire hydrants in industrial, commercial, multi-family, mobile home
park, recreational vehicle park, structures for public congregation, and
other high-value sites, shall be:
a. Spaced not more than 300 vehicular travel feet between hydrants;
and
b. Each capable of providing a minimum fire flow of 750 gpm with required
residual pressure.
Existing fire hydrants within private property or isolated by physical
barriers from the proposed development site may not be utilized for fire
protection requirements of the proposed construction.
