Results of the 2008 Ocean Mile Swim Race Series are now available online

Image of Clearwater BeachPublic safety is the primary responsibility of the Clearwater Beach Patrol. Guards provide safety supervision for the gulf waters and the adjacent beach for approximately 1.3 miles of coastline on Clearwater Beach and ½ mile at neighboring Sand Key Park.

Secondary responsibilities are many, including equipment maintenance, supervision of special events on the beach, public education lectures, removal of potentially hazardous materials from the beach and gulf waters, and providing information to beach patrons.

Patrol Area

Clearwater Beach extends from Clearwater Pass northward to Caladesi Island, approximately 4 miles. The municipal beach is located on the southern half of Clearwater Beach, between Clearwater Pass jetty and Avalon Avenue to the north. Pier 60 is ½ mile north of Clearwater Pass and extends west into the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 300 yards. The pier is a visible focal point of the beach. The area south of Pier 60 is referred to as the South Beach and the area north of the pier is called North Beach. The area landward of the high tide mark, between the north boundary of the Hilton Surfside Hotel north to the Rockaway Pier is considered private. Rockaway Pier is a concrete observation area that does not extend into the Gulf of Mexico. Several concrete benches extend to the waterline in front of Rockaway Pier. Several vendors are licensed to do business on the beach renting umbrellas and cabanas on both the South and North Beaches. Various watercrafts are also available for rent on the North Beach. The areas of responsibility for the Clearwater Beach Patrol are all waters along the municipal beach and all municipal areas of the beach. Beach guards are expected to assist patrons on the private beach whenever possible.
