General Information:
Project Status: In Construction Phase
Project Title: Cleveland Streetscape Phase II Project
Project Number: 08-0055-EN
Project Location: First Section – Cleveland Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Missouri Avenue
Second Section – Cleveland Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Myrtle Avenue
Project Description: This project will continue the look and feel of the Cleveland Streetscape phase I project, which was previously completed from the waterfront to Myrtle Avenue. This project includes asphalt milling and resurfacing of travel lanes, and will provide for one travel lane in each direction and on-street parking on both sides of the street. New concrete curbing will be added to create medians/traffic separators with new landscaping down the center of Cleveland Street. New wider sidewalks made of specialty concrete and pavers will be constructed. Paver crosswalks will be installed at all intersections and pedestrian crossings. Site furnishing including new benches and trash cans will be placed on the corners and at bus stops. The project’s new landscaping will include Medjool Date Palms on the corners, Crape Myrtles trees in between, and Live Oaks will be planted in the medians as well as other Florida friendly plants. All overhead electrical and utility lines will be removed as part of the project. New decorative streetlights with single heads will be installed. The existing span wire traffic signals at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Missouri Avenue will be replaced with decorative mast arm signals. The underground utility work on the project will include new reclaimed and drinking water mains, and a new stormwater collection system.
Project Manager: Tim Kurtz, Senior Landscape Architect
Consultant: Bellomo Herbert And Company, Inc.
Contractor: MTM Contractors, Inc.
Project Notes: Construction of the entire project will take a total of one year.  The first section of construction began on February 7th and was deemed substantially complete and was opened to the public on Friday, September 16th.  The second section of construction started on Monday, September 19th.  It includes the portion of Cleveland Street, from Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue to Myrtle Avenue. This section of construction is scheduled to be completed by April. The final asphalt paving will be completed by the end of March, followed closely by the with installation of the concrete pavers, site furniture, landscaping and signage. The necessary detours will reroute drivers north to Drew Street. Advance warning and detour signs will direct the public around the work zone. Access to the Cleveland Street businesses will be maintained through adjacent side streets and avenues.
