| Project Notes: |
At the request of many Morningside residents, traffic calming will soon bring a reduction in speeding and aggressive driving behavior in the Morningside area. Construction of traffic calming features are currently being installed throughout the Morningside Neighborhood, which is bound on the west by Belcher Road, on the north by Magnolia Drive, on the east by U.S. Highway 19, and on the south by Nursery Road.
The contractor received the Notice to Proceed on April 8, 2010, and construction began May 3, 2010. The project is expected to continue through June 27, 2011, and will cost about $1.5-million.
Construction updates as of Feb. 15 include the completion of construction at the following intersections: Williams Drive and Williams Drive, Williams Drive and Morningside Drive and Glenmoore Drive and Chinaberry Drive. Construction continues at the intersection of Harn and Stewart boulevards, and also the modification to Harn and Claiborne pavers. The 12" cast-iron water main located at the intersection of Harn and Stewart boulevards has been replaced.
Mode of transportation remains in effect with modification of the westbound detour route to Nursery Road for the closure of the Harn and Summerlin intersection. Variable message boards are placed on U.S. Highway 19. Due to the added reclaimed irrigation work in the medians and due to recent rains, there is some soil washing into the roadway. The contractor is working to fix this issue, and erosion control devices will remain in work areas until they are fully stabilized and after they pass inspections.
Construction will take place in four phases and includes the demolition of existing facility and construction of new traffic calming features such as vehicle roundabouts and medians along with sidewalks, storm drainage, utility adjustments, landscaping, and irrigation. The project will not interfere with or delay the reclaimed water project that is currently underway.
