Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facilities

There are three Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facilities for the City of Clearwater. They are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All three plants thoroughly treat with high-level disinfection before releasing discharge to surface waters. This is done through use of the Bardenpho process. This process is an advanced wastewater treatment process designed for biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal. It consists of primary anoxic and aeration tanks, secondary anoxic and aeration tanks and clarification. Filtration, chlorination and dechlorination are also part of the wastewater treatment process done before releasing effluent to local surface waters.

The East Plant Water Pollution Control facility has a daily capacity of 5 MGD (million gallons per day), and an average flow of 2MGD.

The Marshall Street Plant Water Pollution Control facility has a daily capacity of 10MGD (million gallons per day), and an average flow of 6 - 7 MGD.

The Northeast Water Pollution Control facility has a daily capacity of 13.5MGD (million gallons per day), and an average flow of 5 - 6 MGD.
