Clearwater Police Question Son In Mother's Slaying

Clearwater Police homicide detectives are questioning a 33-year-old man in the killing of his mother.

The man drove to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office headquarters on Ulmerton Road after the slaying at 1709 El Trinidad Drive. The residence where the killing occurred is located off State Road 590 and east of U.S. 19.

He told a deputy there he had killed his mother. The sheriff's office then contacted Clearwater Police, who found the woman's body in the back yard of the house. She had died from upper body trauma.

The man's 7-year-old daughter was at home at the time of the slaying. But she was inside a bedroom at the house and it was unknown if she had seen or heard anything related to the crime.

The suspect drove his daughter to a friend's house and dropped her off before going to the sheriff's office.

The suspect is currently at Clearwater Police headquarters. Crime scene investigators from the sheriff's office will be working into the night to process the scene.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives. The name of the suspect will be released when he is formally charged. It is not known if those will be ready for release tonight or Tuesday morning.
