Clearwater Police Involved In Two Community Events On Saturday

(Weekend planning editors: Two potential events for tomorrow)

The Clearwater Police Department is taking part in two different community events on Saturday afternoon.

The first one focuses on crime prevention and is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clearwater Aging Well Center, which is located at the Long Center, 1501 N.

Belcher Road.

Patrol officers and detectives will offer Clearwater residents tips on ways to avoid becoming crime victims. Residents can also bring small valuables - such as cameras, computers and other electronics - to the meeting to have them engraved.

Police Chief Dan Slaughter is expected to attend the event, along with many other department personnel.

The second event is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Tampa Bay Skating Academy,

255 Forest Lakes Blvd. in Oldsmar. Several Clearwater Police personnel will join other law enforcement representatives, including some from St.

Petersburg, in a charity hockey game to benefit a civilian CPD employee who is battling cancer.

There will be a silent auction and raffles, as well as a guest appearance by Jassen Cullimore, a member of the 2004 Tampa Bay Lightning Stanley Cup team.

The Lightning has also donated items for the auction.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Vicky Britton to help her in her fight against cancer.
