Clearwater Police Arrest 8 Men In Prostitution Crackdown

(Individual mug shots available on CPD Facebook page)

Eight men -- ranging in age from 21 to 58 -- were arrested by Clearwater Police late Friday and early today as part of an ongoing crackdown on prostitution in the East Gateway area of the city.

The detail, which lasted from 4 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. today, focused on "johns" who seek the services of prostitutes.

Each of the eight was charged with soliciting prostitution and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

Four were from Clearwater, three were from Largo and one was from St.

The operations are conducted periodically in the East Gateway area to address ongoing complaints from residents and merchants there.

Clearwater Police Chief Tony Holloway has said the crackdowns will continue until both sides of the prostitution equation -- johns and the prostitutes themselves -- get the message that the activity will not be tolerated in Clearwater.

The geographic focus of the most recent detail was along Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard from San Remo Avenue to Jupiter Avenue.
