Clearwater Firefighters Battle Restaurant Fire At Marina

Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a fire at a beach restaurant late tonight.

Firefighters were called to The Bait House restaurant at 51 Causeway Blvd. on Clearwater Beach shortly after 10.

The restaurant had closed at 10 p.m., and shortly thereafter a fisherman noticed smoke coming from the building. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure.

Gusty winds played havoc with the initial effort and started to push the fire in the direction of the adjacent StarLite Majesty dining yacht. But firefighters were able to battle the blaze and contain it to the restaurant and spare the 115-foot yacht.

Nearly three dozen firefighters responded to the scene. The blaze appears to have started in the kitchen, but the cause remains under investigation at this time.

No injuries were reported.

(I do not plan to go to the scene tonight and will release more information as it becomes available when I get into the office in the morning.)
