School Bus Driver Ruled At Fault In Accident

(update to this morning's release.)

The driver of the school bus, Rogenia Flowers, has been determined to be at fault in this morning's accident. A witness told police that she ran the red light. Flowers' DOB is 6-26-1960 and she resides at 524 McLennan St. in Clearwater.

The driver of the Chrysler LeBaron which was struck by the bus was Carolyn L. Brumfield. Her DOB is 11-19-55 and she lives at 1453 Lime St. in Clearwater. She is in stable condition this afternoon with serious injuries.

Charges against Flowers are pending further investigation.


Clearwater Police Investigate School Bus Accident

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel were called to Palmetto Street and Highland Avenue this morning after a Pinellas County school bus collided with a car.

The accident occurred at 8:23 a.m. when the bus, traveling west on Palmetto, and the car, traveling south on Highland, collided. The front of the school bus struck the driver's side of the Chrysler LeBaron.

The driver of the car was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg via Bayflite for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. None of the four special-needs students who were on the bus was injured.

The students were on their way to Curlew Creek Elementary. They were put on another bus and taken to school.

There is a traffic signal at the intersection. Police are interviewing witnesses to determine how the accident happened.

The investigation continues.
