City to Break Ground on New Clearwater Gas Facility

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The city of Clearwater and Clearwater Gas System will break ground on its new Clearwater Gas Building Complex on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. The public is invited to join Mayor George N. Cretekos, Deputy City Manager Jill Silverboard, Clearwater Gas Director Chuck Warrington, members of the City Council, and Clearwater Gas partners and staff at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new gas facility at 400 N. Myrtle Ave. in Clearwater.

The new gas campus will consist of six buildings totaling 56,954 square feet. Construction will begin this month and is scheduled to be complete by July 2020. The largest building of the six will house gas administration, an operations center, sales showroom and warehouse. Portions of the existing campus date back to the beginning of the Clearwater Gas System in 1923.

"For decades to come, this new facility will serve the needs of the city's gas staff and customers," says Chuck Warrington, Director of Clearwater Gas System. "We are appreciative of the support of our customers, residents, and community partners."

Clearwater Gas System strives to be the energy provider of choice. Clearwater Gas System is owned and operated as an enterprise utility by the city of Clearwater. Currently, Clearwater Gas System serves nearly 24,000 natural and propane gas customers and includes 20 municipalities and unincorporated areas within northern and central Pinellas County and western and central Pasco County.

Clearwater Gas System is the fourth largest municipal gas system in Florida and ranks 34th out of nearly 1,000 public gas systems in the United States.
