Clearwater North Greenwood Library to Host Black History Month Programs


CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater North Greenwood Library will host several Black History Month programs throughout February:

  • Celebrate the African American History in You

    Tuesday, Feb. 12, 6 p.m.
    Genealogy Specialist, Harriet Thompkins, will provide fresh ideas on how to research your family heritage. 

  • African-American Quilts: Telling Our Stories in Cloth

    Tuesday, Feb. 19, 6 p.m.
    Carole Lyles Shaw, an award-winning quilter and author, will share the rich tradition of African-American quilters. Attendees will view examples of traditional quilts and see examples of quilts being made today.

  • Hip Hop Workshop

    Thursday, Feb. 21, 4:30 p.m.
    Learn from local rapper, Ni Year, about basic songwriting, memorization and performing for hip-hop and singer-songwriter music styles.

  • Clearwater Heights Reunion: An African-American Legacy

    Friday, Feb. 22, 6 p.m.
    Learn about Clearwater’s first African-American settlement in the city in 1909.

  • Happy to Be Nappy: Unleashing the Power of Your Natural Beauty
    Wednesday, Feb. 27, 5:30 p.m.
    Stylist and mentor, Leslie Coley, dives deeper into why women of color are exploring a new age of loving their hair the way it is.
