The 2019 Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival Presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater is Ready to Treat Visitors to a Trip Around the World
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Fourteen master sand sculptors from around the world have spent the past two weeks packing, shaping and carving Clearwater Beach’s famous sugar sand into “sandtastic” masterpieces to treat visitors to a trip around the world at the 2019 Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival Presented by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. Celebrating renowned destinations and prominent landmarks from all over the world, the theme for this year’s festival will be ‘Sea the World, A Journey Around the Globe.”
New to the Sugar Sand Festival this year:
- Pro-Am Sand Sculpting Tournament | April 20 | 9 a.m to 5 p.m. | Outside of the exhibit
- Family Sand Sculpting Competition | Easter Sunday, April 21 | 2 p.m. | Free
- 3 Daughters Brewery, a local brewery based in St. Petersburg, Florida will be the official craft beer of the festival and cider sponsor at Shephard’s Sand Bar
- A ferris wheel in Pier 60 Park will give riders breathtaking views of America’s No. 1 beach.
- Ten nights of Frenchy’s free concerts on the beach | April 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28.
Each year, the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival continues to grow in popularity and garner national attention. Last year’s event drew more than 120,000 visitors throughout its 10-day run. The festival has also received numerous awards and continues to attract visitors from around the world.
Tickets for the 2019 Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit and Baystar VIP Lounge are available online now at SugarSandFestival.com. Purchasing tickets online allows you to skip the line when visiting the exhibit. General admission to the sculpture exhibit will be $10 for adults, $8 for children 4-10 years old and free for children under 3 years of age. Tickets will also be $8 for those 60 and older, military personnel, police officers, firefighters, teachers and AAA members. These discounted tickets will only be available at the gate with proper identification. AAA members may purchase Baystar VIP Lounge tickets onsite for $40 with proof of AAA membership.
Each year the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival is a success thanks to the help of people who choose to volunteer. This year is no different, as more than 1,200 volunteer shifts are needed. “Sand Ambassadors” as the city likes to call them, are needed to work throughout the 17-day event. Volunteers will help in the exhibit area, merchandise area, sand sculpting and giant sandbox area, VIP and entertainment. Those who volunteer will receive a free T-shirt, complimentary meal, complimentary parking and ferry or trolley ride, and free admission to the festival the day of their shift.
About the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival
Fourteen master sculptors from around the world craft elaborate sand sculptures from Clearwater’s internationally famous sugar sand. The works of art are on display in a 21,000-square-foot structure. More than 1,000 tons of Clearwater sand takes on a new life, bringing visitors on a magical journey. The festival is a joint effort between Sunsets at Pier 60, a 501(c)3 organization and the city of Clearwater.
