Clearwater Receives “Best Fleet” in North America Award for Second Year in a Row

City ranks in top 100 of 38,000 public fleets

CLEARWATER, Fla. For the second year in a row, the city of Clearwater’s Fleet Division was awarded the “100 Best Fleets in North America” award sponsored by 100 Best Fleets in America and Governing Magazine. The city has been ranked 68th in the nation out of 38,000 public fleets, up from 93rd last year. The 100 Best Fleets program recognizes and rewards peak performing fleet operations, such as the one that supports the city of Clearwater and its many departments.

The Fleet Division provides repair and maintenance services for a fleet of approximately 1,700 city vehicles and equipment, including Clearwater Police, Clearwater Fire & Rescue, Clearwater Solid Waste/Recycling, Public Works, Clearwater Gas and Parks and Recreation equipment. The city’s Fleet Division is part of Clearwater’s Solid Waste/General Services Department, and it includes 37 full-time employees.

“I would like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the Fleet Division’s management team, technicians and support staff, all of whom work together to manage and maintain the city’s vehicles and equipment,” said Earl Gloster, Director of Solid Waste/General Services. “We take pride in the support we provide to our fellow city departments to ensure they have the high-quality, functioning equipment to get the job done and to serve the residents of this community well.”

“Besides the standard fleet, our team of talented technicians maintain, adjust and repair a range of specialized equipment that not just any technician can work on,” said Perry Conzen, Clearwater’s Fleet Manager. “Being recognized as one of the top 100 Best Fleets for a second year shows the level of expertise that they possess.”

Started about 20 years ago, the annual 100 Best Fleets in America program recognizes high-trust, high-performance fleet operations in North America and Canada.
