Free Sidewalk Rain Art Available to the Community

Post Date:07/10/2019 1:00 PM

In an effort to brighten up Clearwater's rainy summer days, the city of Clearwater's Planning and Development Department is offering a fun art project designed to help enhance neighborhoods and encourage families and neighbors to create cool public art.

The Neighborhood Sidewalk Rain Art Program allows residents to create artistic decorations on city sidewalks using art stencils that can be checked out for free through the city's neighborhoods coordinator.

The project works through a temporary rain paint that remains invisible until it is wet. Once the painted sidewalk gets wet, the painted design re-appears until the concrete dries again. This is a great way to instantly brighten up a rainy day, add public art to the neighborhood and bond with neighbors over a fun, artistic project.

The city of Clearwater's Planning and Development Department will provide rain paint and three pre-made stencils. The participant is responsible for providing painter's tape and and a broom or a wire bristle brush.

Participants can use the city's art stencils or they can make their own or download free stencil designs. Rain paint is temporary, lasting two to four months.
