Clearwater: Reclaimed Water Line Break Has Been Repaired

Post Date:07/12/2019 1:47 PM

Clearwater, Fla. – At approximately 2:45 p.m. yesterday, an outside contractor hit one of the city of Clearwater’s 6-inch reclaimed water lines at 245 Larboard Way in Island Estates. What resulted was a reclaimed water spill of approximately 5,550 gallons.

Crews from Clearwater’s Public Utilities Department immediately responded to the scene, and utility professionals began making repairs to the reclaimed water line, which finished today about 10:15 a.m. The line was isolated with a service outage to approximately 20 to 25 residential, condominium and commercial properties. Service has been restored.

The reclaimed water that spilled was treated and disinfected prior to leaving the water reclamation facility. The water went into a nearby stormwater ditch or catch basin. Almost all of the stormwater ditches and catch basins on Island Estates empty into the Intracoastal waterway.

Clearwater notified the State Warning Point, Public Notice of Pollution website and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, which is standard procedure for spills such as this.

Resident with questions should call Clearwater Public Utilities at (727) 562-4960.
