Clearwater to Host Its First Sustainability Conference

Post Date:09/10/2019 10:19 AM

The public is invited to attend the city’s first sustainability conference, “Building Better Neighborhoods Through Sustainability: A Toolkit for Positive Change.” The free conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Ross Norton Recreation Center, 1426 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Clearwater.

This program is hosted in partnership with the Clearwater Neighborhood Coalition and the Sierra Club. The half-day conference is free to attend and features local speakers and organizations as well as door prizes. Many topics will be covered, including Florida-friendly landscaping, energy efficiency, plastic contamination, waste management and savvy consumerism.

“The best way to tackle the global environmental issues we face is to first act locally,” said Sheridan Boyle, the city’s sustainability coordinator. “The goal of this program is to educate and encourage local solutions in our own homes, businesses, and neighborhoods. We want to help our residents gather the tools they need to help create a greener, cleaner Clearwater.”

Registration is not required, and anyone may attend. Light refreshments will be served. Residents with questions can call the city of Clearwater’s sustainability coordinator at (727) 562-4003 or email sheridan.boyle@myclearwater.com.
