Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a school bus crash this morning near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Northeast Coachman Road.
The crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Northeast Coachman just west of U.S. 19. A pickup traveling east rear-ended the school bus, which was filled with students on their way to Safety Harbor Middle School.
The bus driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Students on the bus were not injured.
The driver of the truck, Matthew Luther (DOB 10-12-79) of Clearwater, was charged with careless driving and cited for having an expired tag.
A total of 38 students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Most boarded another bus and continued on to school. Some parents picked up their children at the scene.
