The Clearwater Public Library System and Clearwater Police Department are teaming up to help keep Clearwater residents safe with a Family Safety Fair on Saturday.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the main library, 100 N. Osceola Ave.

"We are excited to offer the venue for this event, which will be great for all ages," said Mercedes Bleattler, youth services manager. "Our libraries are great sources of information in many ways, and the Family Safety Fair will offer a lot of important tips to families."

Clearwater Police detectives will be on hand to talk about a number of different topics - including how to prevent economic crimes such as identity theft and how to avoid becoming a burglary victim. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be talking about computer safety for adults, while library workers will talk about Internet safety for children. There will also be information on infant first aid provided by the Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department. Child identification badges also will be handed out.

"We hope this event will equip parents and children with a number of different ways to stay safe in their everyday lives," said James Frederick, community liaison officer for the Clearwater Police Department. "We will have a number of experts on hand from a variety of different law enforcement backgrounds."

For the kids, there will  be face painting, balloons and a craft table. They can also see a police patrol vehicle up close as well as a Clearwater Fire & Rescue engine.
