Clearwater Police detectives have charged a suspect in connection with multiple burglaries and attempted burglaries that have occurred in the last six weeks -- one during which the suspect was seen on video wearing bright red tennis shoes.

Carlton Stewart (DOB 10-29-90) of Clearwater is in the Pinellas County Jail, charged with multiple counts. He is a suspect in at least nine burglaries and attempted burglaries that have occurred since Dec. 14. His charges include grand theft, dealing in stolen property and burglary. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Stewart is accused of breaking in to several homes and stealing cash, coins and jewelry. On Feb. 1, after an attempted break-in, he dropped his wallet near the scene. A resident turned it over to a police officer, and detectives began investigating Stewart for possible involvement.

He was located on his porch wearing those same red shoes as seen in the video. He was wearing a stolen watch and holding a bag of old coins taken from one of the burglaries.

Stewart also is a suspect in similar crimes in Largo.
