Councilmember David Allbritton was born and raised in Clearwater and has enjoyed raising a family, building a business and being a homeowner since 1972. He has been married for more than 40 years to his wife, Maryhelen, who is a retired school guidance counselor. He is a proud father to three grown children - David, John and Jennifer - and has two granddaughters, Lauren and Charlotte, and one grandson, Harrison.
Allbritton graduated from Clearwater High School in 1969 and went on to attend North Carolina Wesleyan College in North Carolina. He returned to Clearwater to start a long successful building career, having spent 36 years as a state-certified building contractor. Allbritton served on the Board of N.A.R.I (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), twice winning the “Contractor of the Year” award for remodeling projects in Clearwater.
The Allbritton family has had a long history of civic service in Clearwater. His father, Owen, served as Clearwater’s Assistant City Attorney & Prosecutor. While serving as Clearwater’s Municipal Judge, he won first place for courts’ Clearwater’s size by the National Bar Association. He later was elected to serve as Judge of the sixth judicial circuit.
Allbritton has spent more than two decades of civic and public service in Clearwater. He was appointed to the Code Enforcement Board in 1997, and then he was elected to the Downtown Development Board, having served seven years as its chairman. Allbritton served on the Clearwater Business Task Force, Charter Review Committee and the Community Development Board. He is past-president of the Clearwater Historical Society and serves on the Clearwater Downtown Partnership and Senior Citizens Services Board of Directors and is the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority representative for Clearwater.
Allbritton enjoys spending time with his kids and grandchildren. His hobbies include boating, skiing, distance swimming, biking and triathlons. Allbritton completed numerous triathlons, including four Ironman 70.3 events and two Ironman 70.3 World Championships in the last 10 years.
