Solid Waste Transfer Station to House Recyclables Temporarily
Published on July 03, 2025
The city of Clearwater’s recycling holding facility at the Clearwater Solid Waste and Recycling Center has been damaged and deemed unsafe, due to structural problems after a truck hit a concrete block support beam.
The open-canopy structure is no longer safe for employees to use, and recycling crews will now use a portion of the solid waste transfer station, which has been cleaned to allow for this temporary solution. The facility has two pits, and one will be used for recycling. The other will be used for solid waste.
Solid Waste and Recycling leaders have shared this plan with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, which has approved of this temporary measure.
Clearwater’s commercial cardboard that has been collected is being moved into a tractor trailer, and it will be taken to our vendor, West Rock in Tampa.
This is a temporary change in the city's recycling process until the Clearwater Solid Waste recycling facility can be repaired. The city’s Public Works Department is putting a plan in place to secure the building and carry out the necessary repairs.
