Below are the road and lane closures happening in the city of Clearwater:

Utility Projects

  • Three of four lanes of westbound traffic of Court Street will close to traffic starting Jan. 20, for about two weeks for sanitary sewer repairs. The closure, from South Prospect to South Garden avenues, will leave one westbound lane open and is expected to cause traffic delays, especially during peak hours. Motorists heading to downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach are encouraged to use alternate routes, including Drew Street, Fort Harrison Avenue, West Bay Drive and Gulf Boulevard. Crews will work around the clock to complete the project as quickly as possible, weather permitting.
Court Street Closure 2026
  • Beginning Jan. 14, temporary, intermittent traffic impacts will occur near Fort Harrison Avenue, Pierce Street, and Osceola Avenue, due to stormwater infrastructure repairs. The most significant impacts will occur January 16 through early Monday, Jan. 19, weather permitting. During this time, Pierce Street will be fully closed, and drivers should expect intermittent closures, lane shifts, and short-term detours on Fort Harrison and Osceola avenues. Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic flow, and roadways will reopen as soon as work is safely completed.
  • A contractor working for the city will be running new reclaimed water mains along Pierce Street, through the intersection at Myrtle Avenue and then along Myrtle Avenue to Franklin Street. This will result in potential lanes shifts and sidewalk detours for a period of about eight weeks, starting the week of Oct. 27, through Dec. 22, depending on weather delays. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday.

Road Construction

  • The Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadway improvements in conjunction with the State Road 60 Courtney Campbell Causeway Pedestrian Overpass project. Expect lane closures 24 hours per day through late 2025.
  • The Florida Department of Transportation is working on U.S. 19 in Clearwater between Drew Street and Sunset Point Road. This project will repave U.S. 19, the ramps and the frontage roads. Other improvements include realigning existing U-turn lanes and upgrading sidewalks and lighting. Construction is anticipated to be complete in late 2025.
  • The south side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway pedestrian trail closed to pedestrian traffic from Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard, through late 2025, weather permitting. Advanced warning signs will be installed on each side of the pedestrian trail to alert the public of the planned closure. This closure is necessary for crews to construct the pedestrian overpass over Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard east of Bayshore Boulevard, connecting the Bayshore Trail and the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail. Construction activities are expected to finish in late 2026. There will be lane closures for eastbound traffic in this same area daily 24 hours per day through the end of the project.

Right-of-Way Maintenance Projects

  • Island Estates resurfacing began Dec. 15, and is anticipated to continue through Jan. 16, 2026. Work will pause for the holidays as asphalt plant operations shut down for maintenance and will resume Jan. 5. Resurfacing limits include all of Island Way from the Memorial Causeway to the north end and Windward Passage from Larboard Way on the west side to the bridge just east of the intersection. Please use caution when traveling through the area and follow posted signage.
  • A concrete contractor is replacing curbs and sidewalks along Island Way from Palm Island SW to the north end. Work is expected to continue through January. As sections are completed, they will reopen to allow resurfacing preparation. Milling and paving of the northern portion of Island Way is scheduled to begin in February 2026, following completion of all curb and sidewalk improvements.

Private Development

  • Osceola Avenue has been reduced to one lane in each direction next to the new Ballad hotel construction site. Expect traffic delays throughout the project, and this lane shift will be in place until the end of construction.
  • The former City Hall parking lot (112 S. Osceola Ave.) and the lot at 301 Pierce St. are closed for construction staging for downtown projects. Residents and visitors should use alternative parking at other downtown lots in the surrounding area.
