The city of Clearwater is honoring the 250th anniversary of America’s founding by showcasing city and community events taking place throughout the week leading up to Independence Day.  The city’s signature event, Clearwater Celebrates America, an expanded two-day festival, highlights this city-wide celebration.  See below for a full list of events for your family to enjoy.  Check back as more events are added! The city welcomes organizations to submit their events for an opportunity to be part of Clearwater Celebrates 250. Events must take place between June 27 and July 4 to be considered. Events must be patriotic in nature and family friendly.

Clearwater Celebrates America

Coachman Park, 300 Cleveland Street

July 3 and 4, 5 to 11 p.m. each day

Clearwater Celebrates America two-day festival will feature silent disco, dedicated kids zone with performance by Mr. Brad, four stages, mix of international and local musical performances, laser light show, Clearwater Celebrates Talent, giveaways, local food vendors, buskers, fireworks and so much more. July 3 will feature a Laser Light Show at appropriately 9:15 p.m., and July 4 will have a patriotic fireworks show at approximately  9:15 p.m. concluding the Clearwater Celebrates 250 week-long campaign. Activities start at 5 p.m. each day.  

Clearwater Serves 2.50 

Celebrate America by giving back to the community. Throughout the week of the Fourth of July, various volunteer opportunities will be available in two and a half (2.5) hour increments.  

Patriotic Pup Pals

June 26, 10:30 to 11 a.m. 

Love a doggy for America250.  Register for a 30-minute session to pet and read with a therapy dog from Golden Retriever Rescue. After you make a new doggy friend, adopt a plush pal and decorate their new doghouse (red, white, and blue stickers will be provided) and participate in a special scavenger hunt throughout the second floor. Only child's names required in registration, must be accompanied by adult.    

American Girl Celebration 

Clearwater Historical Society, 610 S Fort Harrison 

June 27, 12:30 to 2 p.m. 

Join us with Palm Harbor Library for an event that celebrates 30 years of doll magic. We will explore the worlds of some of our favorite historical girls from throughout American history. There will be trivia, games, crafts, and themed snacks to enjoy in a special location.  We will be surrounded by exhibits on local history as we learn all about the dolls we have all grown up reading about.  Participants are welcome to bring their favorite doll of any kind to enjoy the activities with.

Florida Suncoast Chorus: American Songbook 

Countryside Library, 2642 Sabal Springs Dr. 

June 27, 2 to 3 p.m. 

Join us at the Countryside Library for a special musical performance of barbershop vocal harmonies presented by the Florida Suncoast Chorus in celebration of America's 250th anniversary. Relax and listen to some of America's greatest-known songs. Don't miss out on this unique musical experience.

America 250- Red, White, and Blue Bracelet Bash

June 29, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Celebrate America turning 250.  Make your own red, white, and blue bracelets at our bracelet bash.   

The Great American Duck Decorating Contest 

North Greenwood Library, 905 N Martin Luther King Jr. Ave 

June 30, 3 to 4:30 p.m. 

Celebrate America's 250th Birthday by decorating a rubber duck. Registration is not required, but space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Dig In!: U.S. National Parks

Wednesday, July 1 

Session 1: 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Session 2: 3 to 4:30 p.m.

This week we will be focusing on U.S National Parks. Explorers will learn about America's oldest park (Yellowstone), create a volcano, and become an Honorary National Park Ranger.    

Family Colonial Games Day 

Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave 

July 2, 2 to 3 p.m. 

Step back in time and try the kinds of games children might have played during the colonial and early American periods. Simple games requiring creativity, movement and a little friendly competition. Children can even make their own version of some of the games to take home with them. Designed for children ages 7 and older.

Night at the Clearwater Threshers  

Baycare Ballpark, 601 Old Coachman Rd

July 3 and 4

The Clearwater Threshers will celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, presented by Budweiser, at BayCare Ballpark on July 3-4. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. games. Stay after each game for the season’s largest Threshers postgame fireworks display, with the same show lighting up the sky both nights.

All-American Hot Dog Giveaway 

Various recreation centers

July 4, noon to 5 p.m.

Several Clearwater recreation centers will give away 250 hot dogs each on July 4 from noon to 5 p.m. Grab a hot dog and stay to swim at one of our bright and beautiful pools. Participating facilities include Clearwater Beach Recreation Center, Morningside Recreation Center, North Greenwood Recreation Center and Ross Norton Recreation Center. Come early as supplies are limited.
