Peace Offering
Installation Date: June 2018
Location: The Flag Company, 1360 Cleveland St.
“Peace Offering” is a large-scale mural located on the side of The Flagship Company Building near downtown Clearwater. It was painted by artist Brian McAllister, owner of JBM Studios, and the Gibbs High School Mural Club in a collaborative effort to beautify the city.
The team was selected and awarded a grant by the Clearwater Redevelopment Agency, amongst other creative artists.
The mural revolves around the history of Clearwater, dating back to more than 10,000 years ago in which the Native American population inhabited Florida and co-existed with megafauna of the Pleistocene including mammoths, mastodons, giant ground sloths, and many others. The painting depicts a Native American woman dropping Hibiscus flowers into the water as the storm approaches. This is indicative of the tale that the Tampa Bay area is protected by the natives from storms. The mural also pays homage to The Flag Company with the deconstruction of the Florida Seal found in the heart of the Florida flag.
The mural combines history, folklore, wildlife and the present day in an effort to share the culture of Clearwater with visitors and residents.
