A sanitary sewer spill occurred Dec. 11, under the Sand Key Bridge along Gulf Boulevard, due to a force-main line break. The location is at the northeastern end of Sand Key, just before the bridge crossing.

The spill has stopped, and contractors are on site completing repairs. The overflow reached stormwater outfalls and entered Clearwater Harbor South. Water sampling began Dec. 11. Updates will be posted as laboratory sample results become available.

Public awareness signs have been posted throughout Sand Key Park. The spill was reported to the State Watch Office (#2025-10522) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (#31786).

Update:

The 16-inch force main break under the Sand Key bridge has been successfully repaired. Lift station 45 has been placed back into service.

Crews will continue to work on the restoration until completed. The work will only take place during normal hours of operations to avoid impacting traffic.

Sampling has ceased as of Dec. 12, and the last report is shown below.
