Doing Business in Clearwater

  • All businesses located within the city limits of Clearwater shall obtain a Business Tax Receipt prior to the commencement of business or the practice of a profession.
  • All businesses located outside the city limits of Clearwater who desire to transact business in the city of Clearwater are required to register.
  • Business tax year is Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 of the following year.
  • Renewal period begins July 1, Business Tax Receipts not renewed on or before September 30 shall pay a late fee.

What You Will Need to Apply For...

A New Business License

  • Business Tax Receipt Applications and Forms
  • Confirm your business address is located within the city limits of Clearwater through the Pinellas County Property Appraiser's office, (727) 464-3207 or pcpao.org
  • Fictitious name registration, if your business name does not contain your legal name (first and last name) and is not exempt from filing by 865.09(7) F.S., sunbiz.org
  • Corporation filing with the State of Florida, if your business name is INC, TM, LP or LLC, sunbiz.org
  • Pinellas County Certification or State License, for contractors, pcclb.com or myflorida.com
  • State License or Inspection Report, for restaurants or food service businesses and professionals licensed by the state, myfloridalicense.com/dbpr or 800helpfla.com

Renew Your Business Tax Receipt Online

Renew online or by mail if there are no changes to the:

  • Business address
  • Business name
  • Business ownership
  • Mailing address

Payment accepted: Check, Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express

No Service Charge

Online Instructions

  1. Go to https://epermit.myclearwater.com
  2. Select the "Business Tax" tab
  3. Scroll down to the General Search, Enter just the BTR Number as it is printed on your renewal notice (Ex. BTR-0000000; REG-0000000) then click "Search"

  4. The search results will display at the bottom of the page. Click "Pay Fees Due"
  5. Review your fees and click "Continue Application"
  6. Enter your credit card information
  7. Your Business Tax Receipt will be mailed to you after the payment is made
