Starting Jan. 11, 2016, the city of Clearwater will go from twice-a-week garbage collection to once-a-week garbage collection. The Clearwater Solid Waste & Recycling Department also will introduce a recycling incentive program called Recycling Perks, which will roll out to residents in January 2016. The department's responsibilities include providing Solid Waste and Recycling services to the citizens of Clearwater, and Building Maintenance, fleet maintenance, and radio service to City departments.
Our responsibility for garbage removal consists of commercial collection, automated residential collection, residential manual collection of yard waste and trash, manual collection of garbage in areas not conducive to automation, and a container maintenance section.
Solid Waste also provides a full-service citywide recycling program. The program consists of residential curbside/curbsort recycling collection for 27,000 single-family residences, multifamily recycling service for all complexes (comprising 26,500 units), a comprehensive commercial collection program serving 470 businesses, the operation of a multi-material dropoff center, the processing and marketing of recyclables for the purpose of returning the income therefrom to the recycling program, community service programs, special projects (such as Christmas tree recycling), and an extensive education and promotion program.
