Clearwater Public Utilities offers tours of its water and wastewater plants every quarter to the public for an educational, open house day. Special requests for group tours can be accommodated as schedules allow; requests can be made to (727) 562-4960.

 

The Next Tour Event is May 4, 2024

The Tusken Raiders of Tatooine considered water wells to be sacred places – and indeed they are. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4, come to the city’s Reverse-Osmosis Water Treatment Plant #2 to see firsthand how we treat the water you drink. The plant is located at 21133 U.S. Highway 19 North, which is along the U.S. 19 northbound access road.

Event Details

  • 501st Tampa Bay Squad logo.jpegThe event celebrates not only ‘May the Fourth Be With You’ but also Drinking Water Week.
  • Meet and interact with members of the Florida Garrison 501st Legion – as well as our water rebels – and learn all about the vital role water treatment plays in our daily lives.
  • Visitors can tour the plant and talk to operators about how our water treatment process works, as well as where our water comes from.
  • Jedi Masters from the Clearwater Public Library System will be on hand to assist young padawans with making light sabers that they can take home.
  • Tours take about 30-45 minutes and happen every half hour: 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m.
  • For safety, attendees should wear flat, closed-toed shoes that will not slide off your feet.
  • Strollers are not allowed on the walkable tour route but can be left near the classroom.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, accommodations will be made as possible. The facility is not fully ADA-accessible.

Where To Park

Go to 21133 U.S. Highway 19 N. and park in the parking lot immediately before the entrance to the water plant. See map below for parking area and image below for what the water plant looks like.

About This Event

This event is a partnership with staff from Clearwater Public Utilities and also the Clearwater Public Library System.

Clearwater Public Utilities treats and delivers 11.5 million gallons of drinking water each day to its 34,000 accounts, which is about 4.2 billion gallons per year! The Reverse-Osmosis Water Treatment Plant is one of three water treatment facilities in the city of Clearwater.
