Sales Tax Holiday Applies to Some Gas Appliances, Until June 30, 2024

The federal government, through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, certifies several energy-efficient products under its Energy Star® program, including some gas appliances that you can purchase through Clearwater Gas System.
Consumers in Florida can purchase qualifying Energy Star® appliances exempt from tax during the Energy Star® Appliances Sales Tax Holiday, which goes through June 30.
During this time, you can purchase Energy Star® appliances for noncommercial use, including certain refrigerator/freezer units, water heaters, washing machines and dryers, all exempt from sales tax. Items included are the following Energy Star®-certified appliances:
- Washing machines with a sales price of $1,500 or less
- Clothes dryers with a sales price of $1,500 or less
- Water heaters with a sales price of $1,500 or less
- Refrigerators or combination refrigerator/freezers with a sales price of $4,500 or less
Clearwater Gas System sells several of these appliances, powered by natural gas. Tankless gas water heaters use less energy compared to conventional tank-type water heaters. The city also sells an assortment of gas-powered ranges and dryers that would qualify. (Outdoor grills, natural gas firepits, gas lights and gas fire logs would not qualify but are available at great prices.)
